Born In Peru to German parents, Claudia speaks five languages and considers three continents her home. She holds a BA from Williams, a MA in Writing and Literature from Boston University; she’s ABD from Brandeis–the topic of her dissertation was going to be “The Essay as a Form.” Most recently, she completed a MFA in poetry and nonfiction at the Bennington Writers Seminars. A lifelong student of lyric prose, she makes her home in Miami, where she teaches the writing of essays.

Over the decades, to master English and the essay, Claudia has shaped a life around studying with writers she loves: Geoffrey Wolff, Phillip Lopate, Andre Dubus (père), Ben Anastas, Susan Cheever, Brian Blanchfield, Jenny Boully, Dinnah Leney, Susannah Kaysan, Carmen Giménez, and Leslie Epstein, among others.
